Title Sequence Clip Review

Title Sequence Clips

In the film industry the hook of the movie is a very important role to play in grabbing the audiences attention. If there is a good movie, it will most likely have a good hook. The reason we watch movies and continue watching them is because within the first five minutes of it the movie grabs our attention and we like it. If we weren't interested in the hook we wouldn't watch it. Thats why the hook is such an important role in movies. There are a bunch of different movies with great hooks in them like Pulp Fiction, Dazed and Confused, Raging Bull, and Saturday Night Fever. All of these films have great intros and left a great effect on the movie.

In the movie Dazed and Confused it starts off with "Sweet Emotion". This song lets us know that the movie will not be sad and will be a good start. In this first clip there were many kids doing drugs and just not caring because it was the last day of school. This lets us know that this movie will take place with high schoolers or at a high school of some sort. The intro scene makes the audience feel excited and possibly happy because its just teens having fun. Overall, This clip tells us that this movie will be about a bunch of high schoolers that are "Dazed and Confused", probably with drugs that are just enjoying their last day of school and some time after that. The second clip was Pulp Fiction and this one has two parts. In the first clip it was a couple who were sitting at the breakfast restaurant and they were talking about people of different ethnicity that are useless when the person talking is from a different ethnicity. They are also talking about robbery and how they are not going to do that anymore and then they start talking about why no one robs restaurants and then they decide that they are going to rob the restaurant. This is when the first clip ends. In this first clip it tells us who the main characters might be and it also tells us that the movies might be about robbery. This first clip engages the audience because in this whole clip there is something going on and something to pay attention to. The characters in the clip are a couple which we learned toward the end because they kiss. The girl in this movies acts very nice but is actually a criminal which is interesting. Overall, this scene makes the audience interested in the movie and shows us that it might be a criminal based movie.

In the second part of Pulp Fiction, the scene starts off where the other scene ends, which is when the robbery starts. After the opening credits come and they start playing what I think I "pump it" by the Black Eyed Peas. From this point it is very upbeat and exciting for a fun intro of the movie. They say that they are going to kill everyone in the room if they move and then the opening credits starts. This scene says the same thing about the first one that the movie may be about trouble and crime. In the next move which is "Saturday Night Fever" it starts while looking at a view over the Brooklyn bridge and then goes to a train. After that is goes to a man walking down the sidewalk and he is a very fashion like man. He is also a ladies man and he is very stylish. On the way to work he buys a shirt from the window. He is walking to work with a paint can in his hand. His name is Tony. The scene ends when he goes to work. The music in this scene makes the movie feel fun and exciting and that makes me think that the movie is going to be about Tony and his style possibly with dancing and stuff from the name Saturday Night Fever. This scene makes the movie feel exciting and fun to watch. The final clip is "Raging Bull", this scene starts off in the boxing ring and the person is warming up for the fight. It looks like the ring is his life and he loves fighting. The fight could also be important because the music playing sounds like something before a battle or from a victory. The whole scene is in black and white and there are flashing cameras in the background here and there. The music mixed with the color and feel of this scene obviously tells me the movie is going to be about fight and that fighting is something very important to him. This makes the audience feel engaged and interested in what is going to happen next in the movie from the fighting scene/opening credits.

There is also an article which is named " First Frames: Titles in the Digital Realm. In this articles one of the things I like that it talks about is that 2D, 3D, and special effect has become an integral part of every film and they establish the image and mood of the opening sequence your about to watch. I also like how it said that Title design in the films is a big part of how the movie will feel and be to the viewer. These are both two key parts of the film and make a very big difference of what is going to happen. Film itself is a very cool thing to learn about and has many cools aspects. Some of the reasons I chose film is because I wanted to learn how to break down films and see how the whole thing is done. I think that this class is very cool and I cannot wait to continue the year and learn more new things.
