Peer Pitch & Concept Refinement Chart

    

        My portfolio project concept is the work ethic you need to maintain the physique that athletes have in different sports. The topic is unique to me because I don't see a lot of magazines that go over that. The only kind of magazines I see are the ones where the people talk about the sport itself and not the work and physique you need to stay qualified for that sport. At first, my portfolio project was the idea that I would talk about the work ethic that the players needed to stay in the sport of football. I thought that the idea was good at first but I was wrong.

    The concept of my original idea was good but the idea itself needed some tweaking. My teacher told me that there were many limitations for the idea and there were ways that we could tweak them. My teacher also told me that the idea was not all that good because the audience was very limited. She told me that my audience was very limited because the base of my topic was football and not every person watches football, but, there are a lot more people who are interested in more sports than just football. Therefor, my audience would be larger because there would be more sports in the picture. In the article U.S. Magazine Industry(Watson) it states that " ESPN The Magazine... has the largest reach among all magazines". I feel like this would help me with my magazine because that shows that sports magazines are the leading magazines in the United States. This is defending me because if sports are the leading topic in magazines that gives me an extra boost on being a popular magazines because of the sports topic. That is part of the reason I chose sports as a magazine topic. The sports industry in magazines is very leading because of the wide audience. The article "Magazines with Largest Audience in the U.S. 2019" states that " ESPN The Magazine also has the largest mobile audience in the United States". Both of these statements defend my topic and the potential behind them. 

    Those articles both support my concept because they both back the idea that sports is a good topic for a magazine. The topic of sports has a good amount of income coming from magazines annually. Although magazines are going mostly digital there is still a large amount of people who enjoy reading paper magazines. The EPSN is a good example of a magazine company that has taken over the magazine sport industry and that is a good reason on why the sport magazine is a solid topic and why it has so much endless potential.
